Steamed Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Steamed Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Do you know how sweet potatoes taste? They are sweeter, as you can already guess from its name, than the regular potatoes. But also the taste is more intensive. If you steam sweet potatoes with regular ones and mash them afterward, you have a very delicious steamed sweet potatoes mash.

Always steam your vegetables

Steam vegetables is always my preferred way on how to cook them, as they keep most of their nutrients and are more tasteful than cooked in a pot. But as not everyone is as fortunate and has a steamer at home, it's okay to cook the potatoes in a pot with hot water. The cooking time of the sweet potatoes is about the same as the normal ones. However, for these steamed mashed sweet potatoes, stick to the cooking time of the potatoes which need to be cooked longer, as you are anyway going to mash them it doesn't matter if one of your potato sorts is overcooked. And you definitely don't want to cook them in two separate pots.

Steamed Mashed Sweet Potatoes

In my recipe, we mix both sorts of potatoes due to the reason (to be truly honest with you) that my spouse think it's too sweet to make the mash just with sweet potatoes. Of course, you can do that, but it really tastes quite sweet and not everybody is going to like that. Therefore I thought it's an excellent way to go fifty-fifty. If you have never cooked with sweet potatoes before, you will be surprised how sweet they taste. You just have to season it with a little bit more salt than you are used to and you will be fine.
